Africa-Press – Angola. Raising citizens’ legal awareness, from the perspective of guaranteeing and defending their rights, is the main priority of the Ombudsman’s Office in Huambo province, according to its head, Eduardo Dumbo Valeriano.
This Monday, Eduardo Valeriano said that the institution will focus, this year, on the intensification of legal awareness campaigns in communities, so that citizens have greater command of the law and the fundamental role of the institution.
He promised to intercede with the Court and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) so that there is greater speed in the processing of cases of citizens in conflict with the law or whose rights have been violated by public administration bodies.
He recalled that the institution carried out, in 2022, a total of 94 judicial acts, with emphasis on the reception of 29 complaints and 15 hearings, which resulted in 37 processes linked to the areas of crime, family and administrative civil.
The official added that of the 37 processes, six were resolved by the Ombudsman and two forwarded to the Court, while the other cases were archived due to the fact that those involved had expressed a lack of interest in reconciling.
He pointed out issues such as access to old-age pensions, the failure to provide food for children and land conflicts, as the main conflicts registered over the past year.
Without presenting comparative data, Eduardo Valeriano considered the balance of activities in 2022 positive, as a result of the dynamics implemented in the legal awareness of the population.
The Ombudsman’s Office is an independent institution whose objective is to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, ensuring, through informal means, justice and the legality of public administration.
