Africa-Press – Angola. Sixty-six thousand 397 pensioners, from a universe of 162 thousand 300 registered in the country, were selected in the re-registration and proof of life process, to benefit from the pension of former combatants and veterans of the country.

The re-registration and proof of life process took place from August 2019 until May 2023, confirmed the national director of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, Casimiro José Maria Vata.

The person in charge was speaking Friday, in the city of Uíge, at a consultation meeting with former combatants and their families, having reiterated that 95 thousand registrants were excluded, as they did not meet the required requirements.

In relation to the province of Uíge, 4,727 pensioners were re-registered, with 2,807 incorporated into the State’s Integrated Financial Management System (SIGFE), 1,756 excluded and 148 complaints.

He explained that pensioners who left the payment system were born after 1959 and due to the failure to present medical expertise, in the case of disabled people.

Widows of former combatants are entitled to a lifetime pension, from the age of 51, while those aged under 51 receive a temporary pension of 12 months.

Meanwhile, orphans, who have a pension until they turn 24 years of age, must have a positive academic record in higher education to avoid being removed from the system.

In turn, the Secretary of State for Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, Domingos André Tchicanha, said that the meeting aimed to hear the complaints of former combatants, after the re-registration process.

Excluded citizens are those whose processes are incomplete and have errors, he added.

Under the new Special Protection Law for former combatants and veterans of the country, they will now be entitled to cards with subsidies for children’s education, public transport, energy and water, access to housing and other benefits.
