Africa-Press – Angola. The reopening of the Naval Base of Soyo and the parade of troops on parade dominated, in this municipality in the province of Zaire, the commemorations alluding to the 47th anniversary of the Angolan Navy, marked this Monday (July 10).

Under the watchful eye of the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), personnel from various areas of the Navy proceeded to parade in a parade, in an action that culminated with the demonstration of “exercises of forces in united order”, called tattoo.

After passing through the tribune of the Standard, Cadet, North Naval Region blocks, the South Naval Region block, two Marine Corps blocks and the music band, the “tatum” was displayed, in a synchronization of movements by 90 marines , divided into four groups, representing the north, south, east and west cardinal points.

For about 20 minutes and to the rhythm of sounds that characterize the specialty (Naval Marines), the crew presented some arts, aspects linked to the culture, habits and ingenuity of the Marines against adverse circumstances

One of the most eye-catching moments occurred when the group, lying down and together, formed a map of Angola, an anchor, representing one of the naval symbols, and with crossed weapons they wrote MGA 47 anos.

The action deserved applause from the audience, where members of the Government, the diplomatic corps and defense attaches of accredited embassies in the country were pontificating.

As for the North Naval Base, whose reopening fell to the Angolan Head of State, it was built in a total construction area of ​​111 thousand and 500 square meters, has an access channel and a maneuvering basin, which led to the dredging of 6 million and 130 thousand cubic meters of earth.

In it stand out the Docking Pier, with 330 meters in length, as well as the three Pier bridges, with a total length of 374 meters, a floating walkway of 115 meters for the docking of light vessels, landing ramp, among others.

The process of expanding and modernizing the infrastructure, which started in March 2021, was an investment by the Angolan government.

The Soyo Naval Base is a support unit for the North Naval Region, which, in addition to Zaire, includes the provisions of Luanda, Bengo and Cabinda.

Its entry into operation will bring gains for the country, in the deployment of forces to carry out missions in areas under Angola’s responsibility, with emphasis on the Gulf of Guinea and other regions of the African continent.

Created on July 10, 1976, the MGA is the naval branch of the Angolan Armed Forces whose mission is to defend territorial integrity and national sovereignty at sea, protection of maritime communication lines, search and rescue, navigation safety, inspection fisheries, protection of marine resources and support for the country’s foreign policy.

Its genesis can be traced back to November 11, 1975, when a group of Angolan fighters took over the installations of the colonial Navy, due to their abandonment by the Portuguese authorities.
