Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred and 25 million cubic feet of gas will, starting this Thursday, be supplied to the Soyo Combined Cycle Power Plant, in the province of Zaire, from Sonangol’s Gas Reception and Distribution Unit (URDG) , called Falcão 2.

The project was inaugurated today (Thursday), by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, in the company of the governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho.

This second phase of the project will process and channel 50 million cubic feet of gas to the Combined Cycle Plant, added to the 75 million from the first phase, making up 125 million cubic feet.

The first stage of this project culminated in the construction of an 8.5 kilometer gas pipeline to transport liquefied gas from the Angola-LNG factory to the Combined Cycle Power Plant.

The second phase or Falcão 2 allowed the construction of infrastructure for the reception, distribution, packaging and handling of natural gas from Angola-LNG’s dry and wet units.

URDG also has maintenance equipment, where a component is also installed for removing liquids associated with gas, treating and measuring product quality.

The Falcão Project is located in the Kintambi neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Soyo, and is located on a gross area of 10 hectares, and its implementation lasted 26 months.

In this phase of its operationalization, the Falcão 2 Project, valued at 42.8 million dollars, generated 29 direct jobs for local young people.

In his intervention at the inauguration, minister Diamantino Azevedo highlighted the importance of investing in natural gas to combat the decline in hydrocarbon reserves and stabilize their production.

He also mentioned the final purpose of producing gas not associated with oil, in order to create a true refining, petrochemical and fertilizer industry in the country.

“This project is part of the plan to maximize each barrel of crude oil produced in the country”, he reinforced.
