Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Provincial Office of Family and Gender Equality in Lunda Sul, Maria Martins, asked this Tuesday, in the city of Saurimo, for everyone’s involvement in initiatives that aim to dignify and socialize people with disabilities.

The official also called for increased attention and permanent care for this fringe of Angolan society, taking into account their full social reintegration.

Speaking at a gathering, held on December 3rd, Day of People with Disabilities, he highlighted that everyone is called to live together in harmony and mutual respect.

Maria Martins explained that discrimination against people with disabilities often starts in families, which means that many of them end up on the streets crying out for help.

To reverse this situation, he informed that his institution has carried out awareness campaigns in churches, schools, hospitals, markets and youth associations.

According to the person responsible, the institution also provides support to people with disabilities, with the delivery of wheelchairs, tricycles, clothes and food.

In turn, the president of the Provincial Association for People with Disabilities in Lunda Sul, Filipe Muambumba, said that they have received support, but it is insufficient due to the number of people assisted and in vulnerable situations.

In addition to the celebration, people with disabilities received basic necessities, essentially rice, cooking oil, soap, pasta and used clothing.

The association controls 726 people with disabilities in the province.
