Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, said on Friday that the main road works providing access to the town of Muxima are progressing satisfactorily and that the established deadlines will be met.

The government official’s statements were made on the sidelines of the visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the area, where on Friday he confirmed the state of execution of works on the urban requalification mega-project of the historic town.

According to the minister, the project between Cabala and Muxima (Icolo and Bengo) was divided into two lots, the first of which, 27 kilometers long, comprises the section between the town of Catete and Ponte 17 de Setembro, where a completely new road is being built.

The profile of the road is being expanded, from 9 to 12 meters, with foundation and drainage work already completed.

“At this moment, the first layer of asphalt is being applied, which allows us to predict the total completion of the section by February 2027, including signage and lighting installation on the bridge”, he highlighted.

The second lot, which runs from the bridge to the village of Muxima, will receive conservation interventions, as the general condition of the road is considered satisfactory.

Carlos Alberto dos Santos highlighted that the pace of work remains on schedule and that the presence of the Head of State “works as a stimulus and guarantees a direct update on the progress of the works”.

He also confirmed the creation of a new access from the south, through the so-called Gate B, which will connect Muxima, Demba Chio, Caxarandanda and Mumbondo to Cabo Ledo.

The route, measuring 145 kilometers, will include a bridge measuring around 400 meters. This alternative will allow travelers from Benguela and Cuanza Sul to reach the new airport without crossing the center of Luanda.

“It will be a route that improves mobility, reduces costs and boosts the local economy”, he highlighted.

Regarding the Catete/Maria Teresa section, integrated into National Road 230 and measuring 68 kilometers, the government official pointed to September 2026 as the deadline for the work, which has already reached 53% of completion.

He explained that progress was temporarily affected by the presence of explosive devices detected during the widening of the road.

“The explosive artifacts were removed with the support of the Ministry of National Defense and work to widen the road to 12 meters has already resumed. We maintain our forecast for completion in 2026,” he assured.
