Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, called for unity among jiu-jitsu practitioners and leaders in Angola, during a meeting held with promoters of the sport yesterday at the Galeria dos Desportos in Luanda. Flanked by the Secretary of State for Sports, Paulo Madeira, and the National Director of Sports, Agda Gomes, the minister completely ruled out the possibility of creating a second Federation, stressing that the different styles should coexist under the umbrella of the existing institution.

“The possibility of creating two federations has been ruled out. We have to accommodate the Brazilian and traditional styles within the existing Federation”, stated Rui Falcão, making clear the Executive’s position on the need for institutional cohesion within the sport.

The Sports Minister also stressed that the Ministry has never been an obstacle to the development of the combat sport; on the contrary, it promotes dialogue as an essential tool for the harmonious functioning of jiu-jitsu in Angola.

During the meeting, Rui Falcão added that “it is still possible to unite the family and solve all problems”.

The Minister highlighted the human potential that exists within the sport and encouraged those present to value the skills of the most experienced athletes and coaches, putting differences aside for the benefit of the sport.

“There are capable people who should be used in the best way possible. I hope that they put an end to disagreements. I have always called for dialogue and understanding”, he stressed.
