Africa-Press – Angola. The acting provincial governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndiloulenga, guaranteed this Saturday that the government will continue to work to improve the socio-economic situation of the country’s former combatants and veterans, in order to dignify the precursors of the struggle for Independence National.
When speaking at the event commemorating March 15th, Day of the Expansion of the National Liberation Struggle, the government official said that the best way to honor and perpetuate the legacy of these heroes is to create dignified social conditions for this fringe, as well as the transmission of great achievements carried out by them for current and future generations.
Despite the social conditions faced by many former combatants, he stated that the Angolan Executive continues to recognize the sacrifice made by the heroes of the expansion of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, which culminated in the achievement of Independence on 11 November 1975.
He recalled that the institutionalization of the date aims to dignify the sacrifice, courage and determination demonstrated by the fearless children of the country, whose importance of this historical fact must be transmitted to new generations, in order to reinforce patriotism, values of freedom and solidarity.
“The date constitutes one of the main sources of patriotic education, formation of moral and civic values, as well as the consolidation of peace, construction and national reconciliation, in order to glorify the heroism of those who made the commitment to free Angola from the yoke of colonialism”, he added.
Apolo Ndiloulenga recognized that the anniversary takes place at a time of great challenges in consolidating the bases for the country’s sustainable economic development, which is why everyone is called to contribute to the common well-being.
Under the motto ‘March 15, 1961, former combatants living symbols of a heroic past’, the celebration of the date was marked with a lecture on the integration of pensions into the Integrated State Management System (SIGFE), as well as the Laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
