Africa-Press – Angola. The Russian Government intends to build a fertilizer factory in Angola, which will contribute to national development and allow direct entry of Angolan scholarship holders trained in that country.
The intention was expressed on Tuesday (1) in Luanda by the Russian ambassador to Angola, at the end of an audience granted to him by the President of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
To the press, Vladimir Tararov explained that the project is valued at 1.2 billion dollars. The project program, he said, has already been drawn up, and the parties have entered the negotiation phase. The Russian diplomat added that the factory will require a lot of energy and gas, hence the need and interest in using local gas.
“The most important thing for us is the price of that gas. We agreed on a very acceptable price for this big project, whose space is also identified”, he said.
In a first phase, he explained, the Russian engineers will ensure the functioning of the factory, but for the start of the works, construction until the inauguration, people will be selected to direct the project, among them Angolans who will have training in Russia.
The diplomat recalled that the Russian government has already awarded 135 scholarships on its own. The factory will also be able to finance the study of other young people above that number. “These people, after completing their training in Russia, will be able to return and enter the factory as engineers, technicians and staff who add training in this area”, he assured.
“Russia has done a lot and continues to do so in the training of staff. We intend to continue with this purpose”, assured Vladimir Tararov, who regretted the fact that many young people find themselves unemployed, after completing their training abroad. The project, he underlined, aims to minimize this problem. European country plans to cut diamonds The Russian ambassador also announced his government’s intention to start cutting diamonds mined in Angola locally. “Russia buys a good part of the diamonds in Angola and this contributes to its development”, underlined Vladimir Tararov, who considered the cooperation relations between the two countries to be multifaceted.
At the closed-door meeting, the president of the National Assembly and the Russian ambassador also addressed the prospects for the development of tourism in Angola. The diplomat highlighted the “great potential” for promoting tourism in Angola.
“In Russia, we have people tired of resting on the beach, eating and doing nothing. Many, today, are interested in rock climbing tourism, underwater diving and Angola has all the conditions to do so”, he noted.
Even without major infrastructure, he added, the country can take a “significant step” towards the development of tourism and attract people to participate with their own money for the purpose.
Tararov added that the meeting with Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos also served as a basis for contacts with a view to the visit to Angola of the President of the Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Valentina Matvienko.
The visit, she said, will give special impetus to “multifaceted cooperation” between Angola and Russia, in particular among deputies.
