Russian ambassador praises unity of parties in the Federation of Former Combatants

Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador of the Russian Federation in Angola, Vladimir Tararov, praised, on Friday, in Luanda, the union of former soldiers from the three national liberation movements, namely MPLA, UNITA and FNLA, in the Federation of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland of Angola (FACVPA).

Vladimir Tararov emphasized this union in statements to journalists, after the opening act of the 3rd Ordinary General Assembly of FACVPA, held at Memorial António Agostinho Neto.

According to the diplomat, in the past all movements were dedicated to the cause of the national liberation struggle, but nowadays, with peace and reconciliation in the country, it has become satisfactory to observe political cohesion between the three parties.

The Russian ambassador lamented the fact that the fight against colonialism did not find a common platform, but political movements understood that with unity they could contribute more to the Angolan homeland.

“This fight against colonialism, regrettably, did not find a common platform, but now, after all this time, they have reached an awareness that together they will be able to contribute more to their homeland”, said Vladimir Tararov, highlighting that the organization with the union of former military personnel from the three political forces, did great work for the country’s prosperity.

Regarding cooperation between Angola and Russia, he commented that it is growing more and more, particularly in the Political and Economic sectors.

The ambassador revealed that a Russian technical delegation with more than two parliamentary vice-presidents will soon arrive in Angola to strengthen cooperation in several areas, including Education, Staff Training and Agricultural Economy.

In turn, the president of the board of the Federation of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland of Angola, Ludgério Peliganga, stressed that the main objectives are to further strengthen the union of members, fulfill the organization’s goals and develop morally, culturally and economically the ex-combatants and their families, for their commitment to the national liberation struggle.

Ludgério Peliganga informed that FACVPA has a total of 38 associations of ex-military personnel, where the restructuring and verification phase is underway to assess the true former combatants of the others.

On the other hand, the person in charge described some difficulties existing in the Federation, such as the lack of its own headquarters, financial self-sustainability, autonomy and statute. “We are drafting the public utility statute with the Executive and other situations that arise from those I just mentioned”, he added.

Regarding the balance of the previous mandate, he considered it positive, as the Non-Governmental Organization is in the ordering and development phase, advancing within the parameters reserved for the institution.
