Africa-Press – Angola. The Russian Embassy in Angola celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries by inaugurating an exhibition of photographs of Soviet and Russian ambassadors who have served in the Angolan capital since the early years of national independence.
Led by the chargé d’affaires of Russia in Angola, Alexander Bryantsev, the ceremony is the culmination of a series of initiatives in the commemorative program, which also included the publication of a joint article.
According to the Russian diplomat, the figures highlighted in the gallery “laid the foundations of mutual understanding and trust” that have characterized bilateral relations since 1975.
Bryantsev also recalled the historical ties of friendship and cooperation between Moscow and Luanda, emphasizing the Soviet Union’s decisive support for Angola’s struggle for independence.
The diplomat said it is no coincidence that President João Lourenço has recently emphasized Russia’s contribution, repeatedly stating that African peoples are eternally grateful for Russia’s support during a time when many countries on the continent were under colonial rule.
The exhibition highlights the contributions of the eleven Russian ambassadors who played a direct role in consolidating bilateral relations.
Cooperation between Angola and Russia is historic and encompasses areas such as defense, training (especially with the Angosat-2 project), the economy (oil, agriculture, and coffee), and diplomacy, with regular meetings between ministers and the preparation of a joint commission to strengthen strategic partnerships and promote mutual development and global stability.
