Africa-Press – Angola. The São Tomé and Príncipe team arrived this Monday afternoon in the city of Luanda, becoming the second foreign delegation present for the II Tour of Angola in cycling.

According to press from a federative source, their counterparts from DRC and Zimbabwe are expected on Tuesday, in a competition in which, in addition to hosts Angola, Cape Verde and Congo Brazzaville, they will also participate.

In the country and traveling on Tuesday to the province of Huambo, the starting point of the event, in honor of the icon of the Angolan cyclist, Alberto da Silva “Pepino”, there is also the president of the African Cycling Confederation (CAC) , the Egyptian Waghi Azzam, and 19 other officers.

The race, which will feature a total of 140 athletes, starts on Saturday (14) with the first stage taking place in the province of Huambo in a five-kilometre prologue, starting in the commune of Santa Nganguela, at 10 am, and arriving in the commune of Munda.

Still in Huambo, on the 15th, the second stage will take place with a 145 km long distance race, ending in Benguela.

In the third stage, on the 16th, the 170 km long-distance competition takes place, starting from Lobito to Sumbe.

The fourth stage on the 17th, also deep, but 180 km long, leaves Porto Amboim and ends at Quissama National Park.

On the 18th, the competition takes a break, so that the fifth stage takes place the following day, in Zaire, at CRI 20 Kms, starting at the Luanda Base, next to the bridge and arriving in Soyo.

The sixth stage, on the 20th, covering 145 km, will start in Soyo and finish in Nzeto, while the seventh stage, on the 21st, will take place over 170 km. It starts in Nzeto and ends in Bengo.

The eighth and final stage, on the 22nd, will be 100 km long, starting at the Bengo Provincial Government square and ending at Largo 1.° de Maio.

The II Volta Angola in cycling ends with a closed circuit competition, in the country’s capital.

The Angolan cyclist from Benfica de Luanda, Igor Silva, won the first edition, in 2015.
