Africa-Press – Angola. The 15th edition of the Sayovo Cup, initially scheduled for February 26th, has been postponed to March 18th, in the centrality of Kilamba, in Luanda.

The transfer of the pedestrian event, which honors the former world and Paralympic champion, is due to the fact that it coincides with another pedestrian competition, of 5km and 15km organized by Sonangol, the secretary general informed this Thursday, in Luanda. of the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA), António da Luz.

He referred that the distance of 21 days between one and the other race is justified because they are generally the same long distance runners who participate in road athletics, hence the lengthening to allow the runners to be in good physical condition.

The Sayovo Cup was established in 2004 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in honor of the performance of the former visually impaired sprinter, José Sayovo, at the Athens Paralympic Games, where he won three gold medals, including the respective records.

Sayovo is so far the Angolan sportsman with the greatest achievements in international competitions, with emphasis on African championships, world championships and Paralympic games.
