Africa-Press – Angola. The practice of scientific journalism is relevant for increasing public awareness of the role of science, technology and innovation, said this Friday, the minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Bragança.

According to the minister, its importance for people’s lives is growing, making it vital that citizens are provided with materials of undoubted quality, which help to define and inform their own destiny in aspects of science, technology and innovation and scientific investigation.

She underlined that the dissemination and dissemination of knowledge is one of the main instruments to improve living conditions in a society, a factor for which, in times of a pandemic, science and scientific research around the world have conquered greater spaces in the news.

The head of the Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation sector, who was speaking at the opening of the seminar on “Scientific Journalism”, stressed that these themes must continue to conquer spaces in journalism, for a treatment that helps to understand them, at first sight, but without detracting from it.

Regarding the event, Maria Bragança said it was intended to reinforce the journalistic production and edition of information of scientific origin, allowing journalists to be provided with elementary knowledge on the management and dissemination of information in this area.

He also referred that the meeting’s objective was to elucidate the importance of scientific journalism as a necessity for an assertive treatment and dissemination of this information and to contribute to the increase of knowledge about science, technology and innovation.

“The seminar’s objectives are also to provide working techniques in the sub-domain of scientific journalism and the sharing of resources, as well as awakening to the need for appropriation of techniques on journalism”, he emphasized.

The event also constitutes an opportunity for debate, reflection and mutual learning, so that the treatment of specialized scientific knowledge contributes to improving the dissemination of scientific and technological data and information in the media in Angola.

With the same, the promoters hope to raise awareness of the importance of scientific journalism, acquisition of skills in the treatment and dissemination of scientific and technological information, as well as the promotion of the scientific culture of journalists on issues related to the field.
