Secretary of State for Defense reaffirms the excellence of Angola/Congo relations

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for National Defence, José Maria de Lima, highlighted yesterday, in Cabinda, the excellent cooperation relations between Angola and Congo and the ties of friendship at State and people level.

José Maria de Lima made this reference when chairing the opening ceremony of the Angola/Congo Joint Commission meeting, which takes place in the city of Cabinda between the 7th and 10th of this month, underlining that they also bring “the feeling of brotherhood that unites them and supersedes any individual interest, allowing the intensification of permanent dialogue, as well as analyzing with serenity and prudence the incidents that occur along the common border”.

He also referred that the initiative to reinforce the actions that guarantee the security of the common border is one of the main subjects that will be addressed in the bilateral meeting on defense and security and border management, despite the operational situation on the border being considered relatively calm.

“However, it is very important to fine-tune the security mechanisms to guard against any situations that may disturb order and social peace between the two peoples”, he encouraged.

For Jose Maria de Lima, it is important that some irregular cross-border movements are analyzed in depth, especially of a customs and migratory nature, which occur on the common border, that we find advantageous solutions, providing defense and security bodies with effective means and techniques to deal with to the challenges to come.

The Secretary of State for National Defense also recognized the joint work that has been carried out in the field of border management, as a result of the speed employed in the diplomatic mechanisms of the two countries, which allow for greater interaction with a view to solving certain specific situations.

However, he underlined that “we are aware that there is still much to be done, taking into account the dynamics of the technological world, whose tools used are very important and valuable for our performance”.

To this end, it advocates that the operatives are permanently prepared to respond to possible situations that may endanger the lives of populations along the borders.

“We are in an appropriate forum to technically discuss all the issues that concern our countries in the field of defense and security, so the Angolan side once again expresses its total availability to receive all questions from the Congolese side, for the treatment that imposes, taking into account the principle of reciprocity”, he said.

On his turn, the head of the delegation of experts on the Congo side, Perfect Director of the Office of the Interior Ministry for Decentralization and Local Development, Serafim Ondele, highlighted the efforts of the two statesmen, the Presidents of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, and of Congo, Dennis Sassou Nguesso, in the quest for peace and political and economic stability on the continent.

Senior officials linked to defense, security and public order in both countries will participate in the event.
