Secretary of State Reaffirms the Advantages of the Bl as a Single Document for Voting

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Local Authorities, Fernando da Paixão André Manuel, reaffirmed, this Tuesday, in Luanda, the advantage of the Identity Card (BI) being the only document necessary to vote, dispensing, for the first time, with the traditional Voter Card.

The official, who was speaking at the colloquium on “The citizen and general elections”, said that the measure aims to simplify the process and facilitate citizens’ access to voting.

The Secretary of State listed the various uses of the Identity Card and the need for everyone to vote with the same type of document, “we cannot have a process in which some vote with a card and others with an ID”, he said.

In this way, added Fernando da Paixão André Manuel, the effort of printing both documents (ID and Voter Card) is avoided.

On the other hand, when speaking about the Electoral Legislative Package, within the framework of the Colloquium, the president of CASA-CE, Manuel Fernandes, defended the existence of a profound capacity for dialogue, looking at the beneficial aspects of the process, and not at the interests of each proponent.

“We must look at the country’s democracy in the next elections, for a fair and competitive electoral contest that confirms equal opportunities for all,” he said.

Manuel Fernandes added that “good laws must serve the process and everyone”.

UNITA vice-president Arlete Chimbinda said that the elections concern every citizen and, for this reason, she considered it positive to hold meetings of this nature.

At the time, the political leader opposed the exclusive use of the ID for voting, anticipating that many will not have this document.

As a result, he argued, there may be situations such as the relocation of voters, difficulties in monitoring, among others, which should be better safeguarded from his perspective.

The holding of this colloquium, which brings together academics, researchers, technical administrative staff, students and representatives of civil society, represents a unique opportunity to share knowledge, experiences and visions on the conscious exercise of voting and political participation.
