Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Local Authorities, Fernando Paixão André Manuel, asked, this Thursday, in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, for the engagement of all national citizens for the success of the General Population and Housing Census ( CGPH), scheduled for July this year.

By speaking at the opening of a seminar on the subject, aimed at citizens from various social strata, the person responsible requested greater involvement from the media and traditional and religious authorities in raising awareness and mobilizing the population for their massive participation in the process.

“The mission of raising awareness, mobilizing and communicating in a world that is increasingly global, it is up to all of us, with particular emphasis on journalists, to play an important role in the process of transmitting information, as well as shaping social awareness”, he said..

He added that the media has the responsibility to facilitate the dissemination of the message, the necessary clarifications about the 2024 Census and to provide credibility to the process, through traditional means of information and other means of communication crystallized by social networks and digital platforms.

The Secretary of State for Local Authorities also called on the leaders of youth organizations to raise awareness among their members, taking advantage of their enthusiasm, creativity and positive relevance to mobilize and raise awareness among other young people for a dignified and effective participation in the General Population Census and Housing 2024.

In turn, the vice-governor of Zaire for the technical sector and infrastructure, Ângela Diogo, reported that the cartography updating work, which began in August 2023, was completed within the scheduled deadlines, which allowed three of the local teams were to support the province of Luanda.

He informed that according to the stipulated survey, the province of Zaire has an estimate of 2,216 field agents and 1,562 agents will be recruited by competition and 654 by invitation.

The province of Zaire has an estimated population of more than 650 thousand inhabitants, spread across six municipalities, 25 communes and 711 villages.

Journalists, traditional authorities, members of civil society, defense and security bodies, among other guests, participated in the seminar.
