Known as a place for leisure, study and practice of outdoor sporting activities, from 2017 onwards, the Nossa Senhora do Monte Tourist and Sports Complex has seen a reduction in visitors in recent months, due to a wave of robberies, but the situation is now very different.
Eight personnel are assigned to each shift, carrying out daily and permanent patrolling work.
The acting spokesperson for the National Police in Huíla, chief inspector José Nongava, said that due to insecurity, the space became less frequented, especially at night.
He also added that the justification was the poor lighting and also the robberies that occurred there, among the most notable were those that affected a retired judge, an Italian citizen and a TAAG employee.
However, since the beginning of the year, according to the spokesperson, there has been a noticeable increase in the presence of people in the space, including locals and tourists, whether studying in the gardens, walking, dating and also practicing physical activities alone or in groups. , at any time of the day.
He highlighted that the permanent presence of National Police personnel on patrol, controlling the entire perimeter, was also notable.
“Those who frequent the place find them 24 hours a day, as if they were also part of the landscape, always with a vigilant and helpful attitude, a true example of police proximity and proof that security is fundamental to quality of life of citizens and the promotion of tourism”, he stated.
He reinforced that thefts have reduced significantly and when they happen the Police quickly clarify, restoring the feeling of security in the place.
The Senhora do Monte tourist complex is part of the “great” green lung of the city of Lubango, which is why it has become a true ex-libris of the capital of Huila and is very popular with tourists, especially locals.
