Africa-Press – Angola. More than 15 cases that allegedly involve public managers in crimes of corruption and embezzlement are being investigated in the province of Lunda Norte, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).
The information was provided this Saturday, by the provincial director of SIC in Lunda Norte, Francisco António, on the occasion of International Day against Corruption, which is celebrated, highlighting that the processes involve former municipal administrators, directors of provincial offices and heads of departments .
According to the official, due to the complexity of the crimes of which they are accused, the investigation of the case requires caution, time and consideration to avoid errors in the judicial phase.
“It is necessary to understand that these are processes of a complex nature in their treatment, because embezzlement crimes involve several phases in the procedural investigation, so that the necessary data is collected to produce evidence regarding the matters or accusation that falls on the alleged perpetrator”, he stressed.
He made it known that ten cases linked to economic crimes have reports completed and handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for subsequent phases.
The International Day against Corruption, marked by the signing of the UN Convention in Mérida, Mexico, aims to highlight global cooperation to strengthen prevention and combat.
On the other hand, he said that the illicit and tragic exploitation of diamonds leads to the emergence of other crimes in Lunda Norte, a phenomenon that requires defense and security bodies to take redoubled actions, with the collaboration of the population, to combat it.
He reported that in the third quarter of this year, the institution seized more than 300 diamond stones for possession and illicit trafficking.
He appealed to the population to continue collaborating with the SIC, by reporting cases of corruption, diamond and human trafficking, among other crimes that jeopardize public order and tranquility in communities.
Currently, the institution is staffed by 189 agents, 60 percent of whom are of retirement age.
