The deputy director of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Hernany Luís, urged, this Thursday, in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire, the traditional authorities to redouble the actions to mobilize the population for their massive participation in the General Population and Housing Census (RGHP) 2024, which starts in July.
When speaking at the opening ceremony for the recruitment of field agents, which took place in the city of Mbanza Kongo, the official said that the Executive wants the collaboration of sobas and other community figures in raising awareness among the population about the success of the process.
The spokesperson for the Multisectoral Commission to Support the 2024 Census urged all the living forces of society, with emphasis on academics, to register for the census process that will last 30 days.
Regarding the registration of field agents, at the level of the province of Zaire, the deputy director of INE said he expected candidates to have command of the national Kikongo language, spoken in the region, for greater interaction with the populations, especially in remote locations.
He asked Municipal Administrations to speed up the process for census agents, especially when traveling to communes, as well as access to digital platforms and the internet.
The province of Zaire, he said, will recruit 1,368 field agents for the General Population and Housing Census, including coordinators and supervisors.
Currently, he said, the province of Zaire has an estimated population of around 800 thousand inhabitants, compared to the 600 thousand recorded in the 2014 census.
On the occasion, Zaire’s deputy governor for the technical sector and infrastructure, Ângela Diogo, reiterated the provincial government’s unconditional support for the process.
The deputy coordinator of the Census Commission for the General Census in the region also ensured that the logistical and human conditions were created for the start of the census in the province.
The registration process for field agents for the 2024 Census began this Wednesday (22) throughout the national territory and ends on the 30th of the current month. It is expected to recruit 79 thousand 423 candidates.
Participating in the opening of the recruitment process of field agents, members of the Government, representatives of defense and security bodies, traditional authorities, members of civil society, among other guests.
