Africa-Press – Angola. Five billion kwanzas were recently made available by Sonangol, for the construction of nine kilometers of railway branch to unload fuel and derivatives in Menongue, capital of Cuando Cubango.
These are construction works on the railway branch, which began on Monday, from the town of Macuba, which connects the Caminho de Ferro de Moçâmedes (CFM) line.
The project, lasting seven months, to be carried out by the Chinese company Lei JUNCA Construção Limitada, will initially guarantee 50 direct jobs for local young people, out of the 300 planned until the end of the works.
The engineer from Sonangol Logística’s engineering and projects department, Macael Costa Vita Vemba, said that the works could facilitate the transport of fuel via train, instead of trucks that do so from Benguela and Namibe.
He said it is in Sonangol’s interest to build this branch to the company’s facilities, where more than three thousand cubic meters of diesel and gasoline are stored, which will provide greater access to these derivatives and contribute to development in Cuando Cubango.
The vice-president of the company Lei JUN-CÁ Construção Limitada in Angola, Ruihai Wei, said that China Hywuai Goup Limit, since its entry into Angola in 2007, has been supported by friends, carrying out several railway, road, urban infrastructures, civil construction and hydraulic projects.
He committed to strictly complying with the contract and guaranteeing the desired quality, to stimulate local economic development.
For her part, the vice-governor of Cuando Cubango for the Political, Social and Economic sectors, Helena Chimena, highlighted the importance of the project for the province, as it will increase the logistics capacity of fuel, gas and lubricants with lower production costs. transport via this route.
It is understood that the project will also facilitate other neighboring provinces of Cuando Cubango, such as Bié and Moxico, as well as municipalities in the interior of this region of the country, as well as increasing the employability capacity until its completion.
The project execution work will be aligned with the construction of hydraulic passages, laying of rails, ballast and maintenance, signaling, telecommunications, electricity, telecommunications cable, installation of indoor telecommunications machines, construction of level crossing machines, among others .
