Africa-Press – Angola. A book entitled Elements of Description of the Songo Language, authored by researchers of African languages, Zavoni Ntondo and Wilson Sacaia, was launched, in this city, with the aim of contributing to language learning.

The 126-page work contains the current standards of speech, writing and the alphabet of the Songo language and is aimed essentially at speakers and learners of the said language.

Published by Editora Soletrar, the book portrays the pronunciation and the way to use words correctly, as well as sayings and other aspects related to songo, and is being sold for 7,000 kwanzas.

According to co-author Wilson Sacaia, the book is a viable way to learn the language, due to the aspects described in it, especially the alphabet.

In turn, Zavoni Ntondo considered that in addition to teaching the language, the work represents a way of valuing and affirming the songo as an element of Angola’s cultural identity.

The deputy governor of Malanje for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Domingos Eduardo, who witnessed the launch of the work, praised the initiative of the authors, due to the rarity with which it is written about a certain traditional language in the country.

He highlighted that the narrative about some aspects of the book, give greatness to the Songo language and praise the Angolan culture.

For the president of the Association of Naturals and Friends of the Songo Region (ANARSONGO), Noé Cavemba, the language is currently gaining many speakers and with the appearance of this book, its expansion is foreseen more and more.

The Songo language is the main vehicle of communication for the inhabitants and natives of the region of the same name, which includes the municipalities of Cambundi, Catembo, Luquembo and Quirima, province of Malanje, but has an impact on other parts of the country.
