South African Company Begins Testing Angosat-2 Services

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), in partnership with INFRASAT and the South African public telecommunications company, SENTECH, began technical and service tests using Angosat-2 this week.In a press release, GGPEN reveals that the objective is for SENTECH to use Angosat-2 to provide television content distribution services, as well as digital broadcasting.

The work in progress is also part of the practical sharing of infrastructure between SADC countries, of which Angola and South Africa are part of the Committee of Experts.

According to GGPEN, during the tests, the technical teams observe compliance with the procedures and validation of the performance of the parameters of the terrestrial antennas, located in Johannesburg, and the Angolan satellite.

“On November 13, 2024, in Johannesburg, South Africa, two antennas were pointed and aligned towards the Angolan satellite, a main antenna measuring nine meters in diameter and another remote antenna measuring 3.7 meters in diameter,” the note states.

Throughout the process, parameters such as the relationship between signal and noise, modulation and power levels in transmission and reception, among others, were also verified.

“The work done with Zambia, and now ongoing with South Africa, represents efforts to commercialize ANGOSAT-2’s capabilities outside Angola’s borders”, reinforces GGPEN.

SENTECH is a South African public company and a leading provider of electronic communications services to the South African broadcasting and communications industry.
