Four thousand and 95 Identity Cards (IDs) were issued, from January to March this year, by the Civil and Criminal Identification Service, in the municipality of Soyo, province of Zaire, representing an increase of over 800 documents in relation to the period counterpart of 2023.

According to the interim head of this body in the municipality, Albertina Kiony Isabel Paulo, 1,267 citizens acquired this national identity document for the first time, 2,392 renewed it, while another 436 individuals requested it due to loss or deterioration..

The increase was due to the maximum commitment of the five employees who guarantee services at the Civil and Criminal Identification post, according to the person in charge.

The waiting time to obtain the document, according to the source, varies from one to three months, highlighting that 1,685 Identity Cards are waiting for their owners, with some that are no longer valid.

He lamented the lack of employees, with only five available, stressing that the Civil and Criminal Identification service in Soyo needs four more elements to respond to demand.

The municipality of Soyo borders the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), but the interim head of the Identification service guarantees security in the process of obtaining the ID card, in order to prevent foreigners from illegally obtaining the national document.

The municipality of Soyo, located in the extreme northwest of the province of Zaire, is the most populous of the six districts that make up this region of the country, with an estimated population of around 300 thousand inhabitants.
