Africa-Press – Angola. The Ombudsman of Angola, Florbela Araújo, held a working meeting Monday with the Ombudsman of the Region of Flanders-Belgium, Erwin Janssens, having addressed issues of common interest.

The meeting allowed for the sharing of experiences between the two similar institutions, which work in the defense of the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, informs in a note the Ombudsman of Justice of Angola.

During the meeting, Erwin Janssens presented an overview of the structure and functioning of the institution he directs, as well as the main complaints received in the scope of his activity.

In turn, Florbela Araújo highlighted the cooperation and partnership that the Ombudsman has with other counterparts such as Zambia, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Portugal, in addition to international organizations.

Regarding the number of complaints received, the Ombudsman of the region of Flanders referred that the institution receives more than 10 thousand cases annually, a number justified by the access to information technologies.

Another exchange of experience shared by the Angolan Ombudsman was the decentralization of its services in other provinces and the right to intervene on its own initiative.

At the end of the meeting, the “Ombudsmen” expressed their satisfaction with the work meeting and visited the areas that make up the Ombudsman’s Office of the Region of Flanders, in the Kingdom of Belgium.

For Tuesday (13), meetings are scheduled with the Federal Ombudsmen of the Kingdom of Belgium, Flemish, the Region of Brussels, Wallonia-Brussels, and the President of the Belgian Network of Ombudsmen.

Meetings are also planned with the Presidents of the Constitutional Courts of the Regions of the Kingdom of Belgium, in addition to consultation meetings with the Angolan Community residing in Belgium.
