Africa-Press – Angola. South African surveyor Jhon Normam, who will measure the course of the 1st International Peace Half Marathon, in Athletics, to take place on April 4th, in Luanda, arrives at the 4th of February International Airport on the 30th of this month. .
The information was released yesterday by the race director, Adriano Nunes, during the press conference, held in one of the hotels in the capital, where other aspects inherent to the race were also addressed.
Normam will measure the course and then send the result to the International Federation of Athletics Associations (IAAF). The idea is to make the event a reference, with that international body, according to Adriano Nunes.
On the other hand, foreign athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Namibia and Somalia, who are registered for the 1st Half Marathon, start climbing Luanda on the 1st of April. All will be accommodated in the Futungo de Belas Complex.
As for the procedures to be adopted in view of the pandemic situation, the organization made it known that it will comply with all the guidelines that are issued by the Interministerial Commission for Combat and Prevention against Covid-19, as well as the Medical Commission of the event, coordinated by João Mulima.
It will also be up to the commission to collect samples from the athletes to carry out the anti-doping tests of those who reach the award places, according to Adriano Nunes.
“The conditions are created in Angola, for the collection of anti-doping tests. The samples will not be processed in the country, because we don’t have laboratories”, told journalists, the head of the Medical Commission, during the press conference, held in 22nd of February last.
João Mulima added at the time that the specimen will be sent abroad, for the dissemination of the results. “They will be sent to a laboratory that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) nominates as elected,” he said.
Carlos Rosa rules out financial support from the state
The person in charge of CRDS Eventos and promoter of the race, Carlos Rosa, revealed that the 1st Half Marathon, in athletics, is valued at 74 million Kwanzas and does not receive financial support from the State.
“This event is organized with the support of sponsors, and we ask for institutional support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Administrative Commission of Luanda, the Angolan Athletics Federation and the Ministry of Telecommunications”, he guaranteed.
In clarifying the journalists present at the conference, Rosa revealed, on the other hand, that when the test was conceived, at no time was the possibility of counting on State support in financial terms considered, as they understood that this was not their responsibility.
“As promoters, it is our responsibility to create the essential conditions for the race to take place, by attracting sponsors to effectively have the necessary budget”, underlined Carlos Rosa.
On the occasion, he presented the gallery of sponsors and said that they continue to work with a view to increasing the number of entities that want to be part of the sponsors of the international pedestrian event.
