Africa-Press – Angola.
Linhas Aéreas de Angola – TAAG increased, in the last 100 days, the registration of domestic flights from 20 to 44 weekly frequencies and international flights from 13 to 29 weekly.

The announcement was made on Monday (07), in Luanda, by the chairman of the Board of Directors, Ana da Silva Major, during a balance sheet press conference.

According to TAAG’s PCA, the increase in flights represents a gain for the company, also taking into account the current context, meaning a resumption of growing activity.

Ana da Silva Major made it known that the increase in flights includes the opening of new routes and that, throughout the quarter in question, some provinces saw regional frequencies rise, while others should benefit from the same packages in future occasions. As she detailed, the company’s intention is to reach 73 domestic flights and 51 international flights per week, by the end of this year.

Regarding the fleet, TAAG incorporated two new aircraft “Dash 8”, already in operation, reinforcing national routes. These have brought more domestic flights and more convenience for passengers. “A good example is the province of Cabinda, where we reacted immediately to the increase in demand, adding more flights almost every month”, he underlined.

Ana da Silva Major assured that work is being done to further improve the services, starting with access to purchase tickets and the online image.

“From a commercial and operational point of view, despite the constraints and limitations imposed by the pandemic, above all, with the appearance of the “Ómicron” variant, it was possible in a short time to ensure the execution of several repatriation flights,

As for new regional connections, it is planned to open flights to Accra (Ghana) and Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) before the end of the year. A new intercontinental route is still being studied.

Financial context In terms of cost management and control, in terms of treasury, the company went from six days to 180 days of cash. Ana da Silva Major says that although the company cannot yet ensure a turnaround in financial results, counting on the pandemic that did not disappear in 2022, it is currently on an upward curve of recovery of 40 to 60 percent of operations if compared to the year 2019.

On the other hand, TAAG’s new board of directors made small occasional changes, with a view to implementing measures that would ensure the company’s solvency and gain management control.
In this process, he said, the supply chain management, divided into four areas, was concentrated in a single purchasing and contracts center, in addition to the application of a new cost control policy, allowing the company to see the first results with savings of around 20 percent on the company’s three.

Space is also being maximized inside the premises, which will also allow for savings on rentals. “It is necessary to find ways to save and bring in revenue, for the company to gain autonomy and not depend on the financial support of the Government. We have to work and give a new framework to the company, otherwise we will be among the 700 aviation companies that will disappear,” he said.
