Africa-Press – Angola. The General Tax Administration (AGT) on Tuesday in Luanda assigned 150 Tax Identification Numbers (NIF) to traders of the Association for the Development of Young Angolans and Foreigners (ADJAE), with a view to broadening the tax base and reducing informality.

It is expected to cover more than 300,000 economic operators controlled by ADJAE, at the country level, according to the national coordinator of informal operations of AGT, Rúben Zeca.

Speaking to the press at the end of the ceremony to deliver the Tax Identification Numbers, the source said that, initially, the AGT planned to register 10,000 commercial establishments by December this year, but currently 25,804 have already been registered, exceeding the institution’s expectations.

The director of AGT, Nerethz Tati, explained that the broadening of the tax base, through the increase in the number of taxpayers willing to pay taxes to the State, can lower the tax burden and promote the balance of public finances in the medium and long term, with the reduction of inflation and the tax burden in the various sectors.

He recalled that, as a result of the challenge launched by the Angolan Government, in order to reduce the rate of informality in the country, last January, the AGT started an initiative called ‘Informal Operation’, aimed at economic operators who carry out commercial activity in canteens, warehouses and shops.

With this operation, he continued, it is intended, essentially, to ensure the broadening of the tax base, to promote voluntary compliance with declarative and contributory obligations, as well as to ensure the increase in revenue collection, through the unofficial registration of taxpayers who show ability to contribute.

In turn, the director of the Tax Services, Elsa Pereira, said that the formal act of assigning NIF recognizes and praises the collaboration provided by ADJAE and by all those who, with information and suggestions, improve all this work.

‘We are sure that by making the first assessment of this operation we will exceed expectations and improve our relationship with economic agents, increasing the number of economic agents that have gone from informal to formal,’ he reinforced.

The president of ADJAE, Mohammed Sedou, recognized the need for the commercial class to contribute to the development of the country, through the payment of taxes.

He assured that the organization will continue to work on the registration of all traders, to contribute to the development and growth of Angola.

On the other hand, he said that the association is promoting a campaign against the vandalization of public property, as well as following the creation of vocational training centers to train young people who are on the street, with a capacity of 200 trainees.

The Tax Identification Number (NIF) delivery ceremony stems from the implementation of the program started by AGT, in December 2023, called ‘Informal Operation’, which aims to bring traders who were in an irregular situation to the formality, especially retailers and wholesalers in the country.
