Téte António and UN Secretary-General'S Envoy Discuss Peace in the DRC

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, met with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Huang Xia, with whom he discussed the situation in the Great Lakes Region, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The diplomats, MIREX revealed in a note, discussed the mediation process for peace in the East of the DRC, following the appointment of the President of Togo, Faure Essozimna de Gnassingbé, by the African Union as the new mediator for the conflict.

The occasion, the statement added, also served as an opportunity for the two diplomats to discuss Angola’s Agenda in the presidency of the African Union and to congratulate themselves on the level of bilateral cooperation between Angola and the United Nations.

Huang Xia serves as the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region, a position he has held since 2019.
