Africa-Press – Angola. Problems such as the lack of democracy, lack of transparency and good governance, unequal distribution of resources and religious intolerance are, among others, the reasons behind global insecurity, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, on Friday in Antalya, Turkey.
Speaking at the panel “Effective mediation – looking to the future in conflict resolution”, during the 4th edition of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Téte António added that economic, financial and commercial disputes, the search for geopolitical hegemony, power struggles, terrorism and violent extremism, as well as territorial and border issues, hunger and poverty, all contribute to this problem.
According to the minister, who represents the Head of State, João Lourenço, at the meeting, the semantic subversion of the concept of the Right to Humanitarian Intervention is seen time and again in order to violate sacrosanct principles of international law, such as non-interference in the internal affairs of other States, respect for the sovereign equality of States and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking to the audience, the head of Angolan diplomacy explained that Angola faced a long period of civil war and that efforts to seek definitive peace, achieved 23 years ago, allowed for the accumulation of experience and lessons learned about the best ways to resolve conflicts.Téte António also said that this experience has been put to the service of the international community, during his two terms as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, in facilitating dialogue in the Central African Republic, in easing tensions between Uganda and Rwanda and, more recently, in mediating the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, in the search for peace in the East of the DRC.
Minister Téte António took the opportunity to convey President João Lourenço’s greetings to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and to thank him for the invitation extended to Angola to participate in “this important stage for reflection” on the course of world diplomacy.
This invitation, he said, reflects the excellence of diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two countries and the deep mutual friendship between the two Heads of State, and it is up to the heads of diplomacy to work towards their continued strengthening, exploring new areas of common interest. The Antalya Forum is an initiative of Turkish diplomacy that has established itself as a privileged space for debate on the most relevant issues in global geopolitics and international politics, which reveals the Turkish Government’s concern with global issues and the need to strengthen multilateralism.
