Africa-Press – Angola. Theater actors in the city of Lobito (Benguela) are looking forward to the availability of the Flamingo cinema to show their work and recover the dignity of the class.
The degree of physical execution of the aforementioned cinema works is around 90 percent.
Like the Monumental cinema, in Benguela, that infrastructure is part of the emergency works that the Provincial Government is carrying out in the coastal cities of the province.
The director of Communication and Image and director of the theater group Horizonte e Arte, Laurindo Lourenço, stated that this space has been eagerly awaited for a long time, due to its modernization, increased technical conditions, namely the lights and the sound, essential for its performance.
“Theatre groups will be able to maintain healthy competition with their counterparts in Luanda and be able to attract tourists to enjoy good theatrical plays performed in these parts”, he stated.
The Flamingo cinema, built in the 60s, has hosted musical shows with international stars such as the North American Percy Sledge and the Brazilians Roberto Carlos and Nelson Ned.
Grupo Horizonte e Arte prepares project for September 2024
The Horizonte e Arte group is preparing a “large-scale project”, to be exhibited in September next year, as part of the festivals in the city of Lobito, according to its director.
This project, lasting ten days, will feature the presence of theatrical groups from ten provinces, in addition to the host and three groups from Brazil, Portugal and Cape Verde”, he announced.
He said that the details are being prepared with the support of the NGO Globo Dikulo, from Luanda, responsible for the Cazenga International Festival “FESTECA”.
For now, there is a sample to display next month, on the occasion of National Independence, on November 11th.
One of his most successful works is based on the literary work of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, with the title “Goodbye at the time of departure”.
Current state of Theater in the province
According to the person responsible for the Horizonte e Arte group, the Theatre, in the province of Benguela, faces several problems, which in a certain way make its development unfeasible.
“We are rarely asked to participate in the Ephemerides, unlike musicians”, he lamented.
When asked about support from the business community, he explained that it is almost non-existent due to lack of return in financial income.
According to him, people still don’t understand that theater contributes to the growth of cities, as a project with national impact can attract tourists who will increase the capacity of hotels and restaurants, transport mobility and consequently revenue collection. for the State.
Regarding the population’s adherence, he assured that “for a few years now, there has been a great absence of theater due to the lack of spaces, but, with the recovery of Cine Império and Sporting do Lobito, the class is already gradually regaining its status and more people are already showing up”, he considered.
Laurindo Lourenço lamented the difficulties experienced in exhibiting the projects, stating that the groups spend between 300 and 400 thousand kwanzas on creating logistical conditions, namely accommodation, food, space rental, etc.
“This amount is the effort of the art makers themselves due to the love they have for the profession”, he revealed.
Horizonte e Arte is one of the most renowned theater groups in the “city of flamingos”. It has existed since 2008 and currently has twenty-one members.
