Africa-Press – Angola. The spiritual leader of the Tocoista Church, Dom Afonso Nunes, announced, Friday, the holding of the congregation’s first Extraordinary Congress, scheduled for this year.
Speaking at the New Year’s greetings ceremony, he explained that this initiative aims, essentially, to unite the still distant wings of the church.
The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Tocoista), founded on July 25, 1949, has been recognized by the Angolan State since 1992, with three wings and different leaders.
According to Afonso Nunes, the Extraordinary Congress will be a unique opportunity to seek a platform of understanding and put an end to the quarrels started in 1984, after the death of the founder of the church, Simão Gonçalves Toco.
According to the person in charge, holding the event should open the door to a deep discussion about the various ideological views that still divide the faithful, and help to avoid leadership disputes through the courts.
In another domain, he announced that the Church plans to inaugurate three temples this year, in Portugal (February), in the Democratic Republic of Congo (July) and in the province of Moxico (May).
In the area of health, he announced that he intends to equip the Instituto Superior Politécnico Tocoista (ISPT) with new state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, aiming to contribute to the quality of education in the country.
“By focusing on training highly qualified staff, it will help the State in its plan to raise the country to levels that will allow it to ensure growth”, he said.
Dom Afonso Nunes appealed, on the other hand, to the Angolan government to continue working and follow the most appropriate paths, which aim at the happiness of the people.
To this end, he considered it essential that government authorities fulfill the commitments made in the August 2022 general elections, won by the MPLA.
He advised holders of public office to help the President of the Republic, during the present mandate, in the creation and execution of projects capable of improving the life of the people.
“If the public manager demonstrates incompetence in carrying out the assigned functions diligently, he should have the maturity to make the position available, without waiting for the President to exonerate him”, defended the religious.
The Bishop also said he hoped that in the year 2023 there would be more unity, love and forgiveness among all Angolans.
Unity in Africa
In the international domain, he appealed to the unity of African leaders, who he encouraged to continue creating investments in favor of the well-being of peoples, in various sectors.
According to the Tocoist leader, Africans are mature enough and have natural resources to overcome current difficulties.
“Do not believe, dear African leaders, in the promises that are being made, because in a world of competition, I do not see how it can be possible for a competitor to help its biggest consumer to leave the state of dependence for the state of independence”, he warned.
He explained that the Church needs to help free African rulers from what he considers “spiritual and psychological prison”.
