Africa-Press – Angola. The third and final day of the United Nations Tourism/ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Ministerial Conference reserved a high-level panel on the theme “Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Growth in the Tourism and Air Transport Sectors in Africa” and the Luanda Final Declaration.
The event brought together ministers, policymakers and industry leaders who will outline a shared vision for building resilient and sustainable tourism and air transport systems in Africa.
It discussed issues related to regional integration, infrastructure development, policy harmonization and financial innovation.
The event is considered an opportunity to identify priority actions as well as to improve connectivity, and also to unlock investment and boost inclusive economic transformation and is expected to conclude the creation of a Joint Ministerial Declaration, reaffirming the commitment of African States to coordinated action and long-term resilience, in alignment with the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063, the UN and ICAO tourism structures.
The conference began on Tuesday with over 500 delegates, including 21 ministers, in the presence of senior representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the Secretary-General of the UN Tourism, Zurab Pololikashvili.
Participants at the 2nd Ministerial Conference, which brought together experts and operators from the tourism and air transport sectors, also discussed topics related to the challenges and solutions for inter-African tourism.
The main objective of the conference is to find integrated solutions that facilitate the development of these two critical components of the African economy, within the framework of the Open Sky Initiative.
At the end of the event, participants are requested to submit a joint declaration to facilitate travel in Africa, using mechanisms to reduce bureaucracy, particularly in the granting of visas or full liberalization of multiple entries.
