Africa-Press – Angola. Traditional authorities in the province of Huambo called, this Thursday, for the massive adhesion of citizens to the General Population and Housing Census scheduled for this year, for greater assertiveness and inclusion of the Executive’s public policies.
Regarding the preparation of the census process, scheduled to begin on 19 July, they consider it to be an initiative of the Angolan Government, which will develop local communities, in alignment with good governance and the dissemination of reliable information about the reality from the country.
The king of Huambo, Artur Moço, said that the population needs to contribute, in a harmonious and peaceful way, to the smooth running of the General Population and Housing Census, as it is crucial in promoting the well-being of communities.
In the communities, he recalled, the sobas began, since 2023, to raise awareness among the population about the good reception of census agents, who will collect, among others, data on families, housing and lifestyle, with a focus on improving conditions of life.
The sovereign stressed that, as far as traditional authorities are concerned, as transmitters of the Angolan State’s policies in the communities, everything is being done so that the event runs normally and without any constraints, in order to achieve the recommended objectives.
For the king of Sambo, Mariano Sampaio Paquissi, all citizens need to be united and mobilized in favor of this process, which will allow us to know the real forecast of the population in the country, to help the Government in defining assertive policies.
He stressed that, for good administration, it is important that government authorities know the number of existing inhabitants, how and where they live, aiming at the good execution of public policies and better distribution of wealth.
For his part, the grand soba of the Cacilhas sector, Moisés Cuvíngua, said it is necessary for everyone, regardless of their area of origin, to be aware of the advantages of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, to avoid failures during activities.
He added that all sobas in his sector are aimed at raising awareness among the population, at various meetings in the communities, so that they can receive Census enumerators without embarrassment.
For the director of the Joaquim Kapango sector, Abílio Pedro, it is crucial that everyone is aligned in assertive governance, which is embodied in good planning of assets to be allocated in communities, depending on population density.
The director of the Comandante Vilinga sector, José Mário Pagador, said that the work of mobilizing citizens must involve all social fringes, so that the Angolan Government can prepare real statistical data.
The 2024 General Population and Housing Census will be the third in the country’s history, the first being carried out in 1970, five years before Angola’s independence, while the second took place in 2014.
The process will allow us to know, with precision, the number of inhabitants in the country, how many men, women, children and elderly people, where they live and how they live. With this information, there can be better planning and distribution of essential services for all Angolans.
