Africa-Press – Angola. The kings of Mavinga, Rivungo, Dirico and Calai praised, this Wednesday, the project for the new Political-Administrative Division (DPA) of the country, in which the province of Cuando Cubango will be divided into two, Cuando and Cubango, for allowing regional asymmetries to be reduced.
The proposed law for the new DPA is already in the National Assembly for approval.
These are the kings Pedro Mivango Mukissi (Mene Tchiyengo), from the municipality of Mavinga; Mwene Golden Maquissi Kaputungo, from Rivungo, and the queen of Dirico, Mutango III, who, during separate visits with the first secretary of the MPLA in Cuando Cubango, José Martins, considered the new DPA to be of great importance for the rapid development of the two regions.
For the sovereigns, the separation of Cuando and Cubango will bring basic services closer to the population, allow urban rehabilitation, construction of the road network for the movement of people and goods, thus reducing the asymmetries of social progress that the interior municipalities cross.
They also believe that, with the implementation of the new DPA, there will be an increase in employability for the youth of both provinces, which is why they request the implementation of the government strategy in favor of the well-being of the population’s socioeconomic situation.
On the other hand, the sovereigns of the four municipalities lamented the lack of rain which is causing hunger among the inhabitants of the border and the migration of young people to Namibia, where the majority are looking for work on the farms in the neighboring country.
For his part, First Secretary José Martins informed sovereigns of the firm steps that are already underway within the scope of the implementation of the new DPA, such as the demining process on the Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga/Rivungo road.
For the construction of this national road (EN280), whose demining process began in 2023, more than 50 kilometers have already been deforested and cleaned with mines and various mills.
The politician highlighted that the construction of the section will allow the transport of materials for building infrastructure to arrive quickly for the development of municipalities in the northern province (Cuando).
Regarding the drought that is affecting the municipalities in question, José Martins assured the sovereigns that the Government is already working with the Institute of Agricultural Research, to train peasants on cultivation techniques in the lowlands, taking advantage of riverside areas, and resolve conflicts between man and animals, to mitigate hunger and increase production.
The first provincial secretary of the MPLA heads a party political caravan, which, since April 29, has been evaluating the Government programs being implemented in the municipalities of Mavinga, Rivungo, Dirico, Calai and Cuangar, as well as verifying the conditions for carrying them out. of the processes for renewing the mandates of local committees.
