TS confirms payment of Ernesto Kiteculo's deposit

Africa-Press – Angola. The Supreme Court confirmed, this Monday, the payment of the bond imposed on the former governor of Lunda Sul, Ernesto Kiteculo, in the amount of five million kwanzas.

Ernesto Kiteculo was sentenced, last Wednesday, in Luanda, by the Supreme Court, to a sentence of five years and one month in prison, for the crime of embezzlement, with his defense appealing.

The payment of the deposit was the condition imposed on the former governor to await the outcome of the appeal, with suspensive effect, filed by the defense.

“We are here to inform you that today (April 1st) the Supreme Court received notification of the transfer of 5 million Kwanzas, referring to the payment of the security imposed on the defendant Ernesto Kiteculo”, states a note from the highest judicial body.

In addition to the five years and one month, Ernesto Kiteculo was ordered to pay a fine worth 250 million 878 thousand 650 kwanzas to the State, for property damage, as well as a court fee of 500 thousand kwanzas.

The former governor was accused, among other deviations, of having appropriated 180 million kwanzas, in violation of the rules for implementing the General State Budget (OGE), assigned to the Government of the Province of Lunda-Sul in the period 2016-2018, when he served as governor.

The amount would have resulted from a payment made to the company “Chimark”, supposedly for the purchase of vehicles for the provincial government, during his mandate.
