UJIK wins 2024 edition of the adult carnival in Bengo

Africa-Press – Angola. The carnival group União Jovens Independentes do Kingungo (UJIK), from the municipality of Dande, became the winner of the 2024 edition of the Adult Carnival, in the province of Bengo, with a total of 210 points.

In the immediate positions were the groups União Dimatekeno de Nambuangongo and Etu Twiza with 195 and 192 points respectively.

In 4th and 5th place were União Rainha Njinga Mbandi, with 189 points and the Kimbelembele do Ambriz group, with 187 points.

The winner also won the prizes for the best song, allegory and commander, while the trophy for the best flag was awarded to the group Rainha Njinga Mbandi from Mifuma and the trophy for the best court to Etu Twiza from Kijoão Mendes.

Founded in 1977, (UJIK) with orange, black and white clothing convinced the jury chaired by the director of the Center for Musical Training and Performing Arts (CEFOMAC) of Caxito, Sizainga Raúl.

As for the prize, the first place in the adult class received one million and 300 thousand Kwanzas, the 2nd one million, the 3rd 800 thousand, while the 4th and 5th received 600 and 400 thousand Kz, respectively.

In the children’s class, the winner raised 750 thousand Kwanzas, the second placed 500,000 and the third placed 350 thousand Kwanzas.

In both classes, the competition distinguished the best court (350 thousand kz), allegory (300 thousand kz), commander (250 thousand kz), flag (200 thousand kz) and song (100 thousand kz).

In this edition, eleven groups paraded in the adult class, six of which from the municipality of Dande, while Ambriz, Nambuangongo, Dembos, Bula Atumba and Pango Aluquém participated with one group each.

The party was also brightened up with the participation of five entertainment groups.

Speaking to the press at the end of the parade, the provincial governor, Maria Antónia Nelumba, was satisfied with the groups’ display and appealed to businesspeople to support the carnival as the government cannot do everything.
