Africa-Press – Angola. The special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the African Union, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, expressed, this Tuesday, in Luanda, the UN’s thanks to the Angolan President, João Lourenço, for his commitment to peace, stability and involvement in the region.
On behalf of António Guterres, the special representative also congratulated the Angolan leader as champion of the African Union (AU) for peace and reconciliation, as well as on his new mission as President of SADC.
Speaking to the press, at the end of an audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, the diplomat said he hopes that with his commitment and effort João Lourenço can work so that the Southern and Great Lakes regions follow the paths of peace, happiness and development.
On the other hand, he highlighted that the meeting also served to convey greetings from António Guterres, who he represents at the 147th Assembly of the IPU, which runs until Friday, in Luanda.
Parfait Onanga-Anyanga said it was a privilege and honor to be received today, the date on which United Nations Day is celebrated (October 24), to be able to express to President João Lourenço how consistent his work has been with the letter of organization, with regard to issues of peace, stability and development.
Also today, the delegation from the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly was also received, made up of the general delegate, Bruno Fuchs, the general secretary, Damien Cessalin, as well as the advisor in charge of diplomatic support, Benoit Onambele.
To the press, Bruno Fuchs said he had expressed to the President of Angola his happiness for being in the country, as well as for the warmth of the reception, which for him is a sign of a welcoming country.
Within the scope of cooperation between institutions, as a representative of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly, he expressed his interest in further strengthening ties with his Angolan counterpart.
He made it known that the hearing also served to address issues of a political nature, taking into account the existing crises in the world today.
“Since the Francophonie has peace, reconciliation and understanding among its ideals, like the President, our openness to work with the Angolan leader on these central issues, which have to do with peace and security, was expressed”, he stressed.
He reinforced that today’s world is different and it seems necessary to play with partners who have the same goals and the same perspectives of establishing strong institutions, as he considers that there can only be a world of peace, concord and harmony if there are stable institutions.
