Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, is expected in Luanda on Sunday for a three-day working visit to the country to strengthen cooperation between Angola and the UN.

The agenda for the trip includes a meeting with the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, a Special Session in the National Assembly and participation in the 7th European Union-African Union Summit.

The meetings with Angolan authorities will address issues related to international peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, as well as the state of relations between Angola and the UN and other topics of common interest in the multilateral field.

Cooperation between Angola and the United Nations dates back to the country’s admission as a full member of the organization on December 1, 1976, and is currently guided by the 2024–2028 Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation, which aligns national priorities and UN technical assistance.

In 2023, Angola signed two agreements with the UN: one on visa exemption for holders of UN laissez-passers and another that allows dependents of UN officials in Angola to carry out paid activities.

António Guterres will arrive in Luanda from South Africa, where he is participating in the G20 Summit.
