Africa-Press – Angola. The unemployment rate in Angola reached 29.4% in the first quarter of this year, three percentage points less than in the same period last year, the National Institute of Statistics revealed.
According to data consulted by Lusa in the Employment Survey Quick Information Sheet, in the first quarter, the fall in the unemployment rate was more significant in the younger population, between 15 and 24 years old, falling from 63.5% to 54.3%.
Most of the jobs created were in the informal sector, which absorbs almost 81% of the employed population estimated at 10,353,727, which represents 964,417 more people than in the same quarter of the previous year, with 89.4% of women in informal employment.
Among the Angolan population of working age (people aged 15 or over), 12.8 million people declared that they worked during this period, in employment, self-employment or in a family business, while 5.3 million said they had no paid work.
The employment rate was estimated at 63.2%, with 37.9% in the age group between 15 and 24 years.
In the first quarter of 2025, the employed population registered a year-on-year increase of 8.9% and more than half (50.7%) have their main job in agriculture, animal production, hunting, forestry and fishing, followed by wholesale and retail trade with 20.1%.
