Africa-Press – Angola. The president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, called today (Tuesday), in Luanda, for the deepening of democracy and the safeguarding of human rights as premises for a more prosperous and developed Angola.

Speaking at the opening of the 5th ordinary meeting of his party’s permanent committee, the political leader said that society should unite in a common project aimed at improving the living conditions of every Angolan, regardless of their ethnicity, party or religious affiliation.

According to Adalberto Costa Júnior, it is on UNITA, as the largest opposition party, that falls the responsibility of leading this project, and its militants must reinforce the activities of mobilizing and spreading the ideals that guide the party.

In his speech, which also served to mark the 21st anniversary of the death of Jonas Savimbi (February 22nd), the UNITA president said that he would continue to fight for the holding of local elections, freedom of expression and against corruption.

For Adalberto da Costa Júnior, despite having passed 21 years since Savimbi’s death, Angolans still do not enjoy the riches of the country.

The UNITA leader asks the militant mass to reconsider Jonas Savimbi’s teachings and ideas to better understand the dimension of a man who fought for independence, peace and the well-being of Angolans.

“UNITA is a political instrument at the service of Angola and Angolans”, he stressed, referring that the party continues to grow.

During the 5th ordinary meeting of UNITA’s standing committee, which takes place behind closed doors, the internal life of the party will be analysed, as well as the country’s current political, economic and social scenario.
