UNITA Holds Preparatory Meeting for the 14Th Congress

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) held, in Luanda, the XXII Extraordinary Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission, focusing on preparations for the XIV Ordinary Congress of UNITA, scheduled for the 28th, 29th and 30th of November.

According to a note from that party organization, received this Wednesday by ANGOP, the main focus of the meeting was the discussion and approval of guiding and operational instruments for holding the conclave in Luanda.

During the meeting, the official motto that will guide the 14th Congress was approved, reflecting UNITA’s vision and political ambition for the country’s immediate future: “14th Congress – United for Alternation, Stability and Development.”

At the meeting, the rules of procedure for the XIV Congress were approved, establishing the rules and principles for the organization and functioning of the conclave, the criteria for electing delegates to the Congress and candidates for the Political Committee, defining the quotas of delegates by province and diaspora, and analyzing the proposed theses to be debated in communal, municipal, provincial conferences and in diaspora circles.

According to the document, with these decisions, the Organizing Committee enters a new preparatory phase, which will culminate in the consolidation of the ideological and programmatic bases to be discussed during the Congress.

The party leadership invited all members to actively participate in the preparatory process for the Congress, reinforcing the call for vigilance, cohesion and reaffirmation of UNITA’s commitment to democratic principles.

Denounces persecution of critics

UNITA took the opportunity to express its concern about what it considers to be the Executive’s recurring practice of “persecuting the nation’s living voices.” Among those targeted, it named political party leaders, journalists, civic activists, and representatives of taxi associations, accusing the Executive of fostering “national instability and the subversion of the democratic rule of law.”

In the same statement, the Standing Committee called for the mobilization of activists and urged vigilance and unity during the preparatory process for the congress.

The note also reaffirms “UNITA’s sacred commitment to democracy and the uncompromising defense of the best interests of the Angolan people.”

Under the leadership of the Party President, Adalberto Costa Júnior, the session was attended by members of the Standing Committee and guests.

The UNITA Ordinary Congress is the party’s highest body and is held periodically to discuss strategic guidelines, renew the governing bodies and approve the main political and ideological theses.

The 2025 edition takes place in a context marked by the celebrations of 50 years of national independence and preparations for the 2027 General Elections.
