UNITA Responds to Abel Chivukuvuku, Stating that FPU Parties are Free to Abandon the Project

Africa-Press – Angola. UNITA’s national secretary for Communication and Marketing, Evaldo Evangelista, reacting to PRA-JA’s departure from the FPU, told this Thursday, 22, that the parties that are part of the United Patriotic Front (FPU) are free to abandon this political platform.

UNITA’s national secretary for Communication and Marketing, Evaldo Evangelista, reacting to PRA-JA’s departure from the FPU, told Novo Jornal this Thursday, 22, that the parties that are part of the United Patriotic Front (FPU) are free to abandon this political platform.

“Political parties and members of civil society were invited by UNITA at the last congress to be part of the FPU. Therefore, any party or member of civil society who expresses an interest in leaving is free to do so,” added Evaldo Evangelista.

This is the first reaction of the “Galo Negro” party to the announcement by the President of PRA-JA, Abel Chivukuvuku, at the closing of the 1st Constitutive Congress that ended on Wednesday, in Luanda, that he would run alone in the 2027 elections.

Abel Chivukuvuku said he received the “green light” from congressmen to “go it alone” in the next elections, because he has already suffered a lot with the FPU.

“I insist that the FPU is a UNITA project, only the president of PRA-Servir Angola himself can explain this suffering he has experienced in the FPU”, he said, highlighting that, up until this very moment, no member of this platform has communicated to UNITA their departure.

According to this official, UNITA is a strong and cohesive party and will continue to lead changes to alternate power in Angola.

Despite the apparent comfort of the current largest opposition party with the situation, several analysts are already pointing out as certain that the dispute between UNITA and PRA-JA is an electoral advantage for the MPLA, which has, in the division, an open door to continue to reign.

The risk for the MPLA is that the entry of Abel Chivukuvuko onto the scene, according to analysts, could lead to greater mobilization of the electorate and, after the votes are counted, the MPLA could find itself in a minority in Parliament, even though it is the party with the most votes.

But since Chivukuvuku has already said publicly that he will be in government or part of the government, the door remains ajar for him to come to power with a platform with UNITA or with the MPLA, in a possible parliamentary agreement.
