Africa-Press – Angola. The United Kingdom is proud to see its Non-Governmental Organization “Halo Trust” working with the Angolan Executive to make Angola mine-free.
The statement was made to the press this Monday by the British Minister of State for Climate, Food Security and Rural Development, Richard Benyon, at the end of an audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
The UK Prime Minister’s special envoy, Rishi Sunak, informed that the meeting served to assure the Angolan statesman that bilateral relations between the two countries are increasingly consolidated.
He expressed the British Government’s “great admiration” for President João Lourenço and his Executive for the efforts they have made to bring peace to the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He said he had recently been to the DRC, and his colleagues were in Rwanda, which is why he came to Angola to tell the President of the Republic how “grateful they are” for his leadership and sense of State, while trying to bring together the conflicting parties to achieve of significant peace in that region.
The hearing also served to express the United Kingdom’s intention to work “very directly” with Angola on the “visionary project” of the Lobito Corridor.
