UnitelBasket: CPPL considers requesting postponement of the first semi-final game

Africa-Press – Angola. The Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito (CPPL) is considering a possible postponement of the first game of the semi-finals of the Unitel Basket play-offs, against Petro de Luanda, scheduled for April 18th.

This intention arises because of the team’s clinical condition after the road accident that occurred this Sunday (7).

The basis for a possible request for postponement is the fact that five athletes and three members of the technical team at Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito were injured after the mini-bus they were traveling in overturned, on Sunday, on the Eval Guerra- Lobito, National Road EN100.

It all happened when the senior men’s team from Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito returned from Luanda, already qualified for the first time in the semi-finals of the National Basketball Championship, after victory, on Saturday, over Vila Clotilde, by 91-79, in the second game of the quarter-finals.

In the first meeting of the quarter-finals, played at home, the Lobitangas beat Vila Clotilde, 84-74.

Speaking this Monday, the president of the Porto do Lobito sports association, António Cassoma, admits that, if the athletes are not in physical condition, he is considering the possibility of requesting the postponement of the first game, on April 18th. , in Luanda.

Although the final decision will depend on the team’s recovery, António Cassoma hinted that the most likely scenario points to the scheduling of the aforementioned play-off semi-final match for April 26th, in the country’s capital.

If this happens, it also foresees the postponement of the second challenge from April 20th to another date, at the Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito, “because above all we want it to be a party and the players have to be in excellent condition health”, he emphasized.

For the president of the only team from the province of Benguela at Unitel Basket, the next five days will be decisive in assessing the physical condition of the athletes, namely whether they will be in a position to take the field to face Petro de Luanda on the scheduled dates.

“Now, we are going to work over the next five days, evaluating the physical condition of the athletes to find out if on the 18th we will be able to go to the field to face Petro de Luanda, in the first game of the play-offs”, he stressed.

He also made it known that the third meeting of the Unitel Basket play-off semi-finals is scheduled for April 26th, dates that may change due to the road accident suffered by the Benguela team.

Out of danger

After medical observation, the five players and three members of the CPPL technical team, who suffered injuries to their upper and lower limbs in the accident with the club’s mini-bus, in which they were traveling back to Benguela, are out of danger, having already received hospital discharge.

In addition to the five players, the team’s coach, Amílcar Benedito, the assistant coach, Edson Pires, and the sectionist, Elias Catumbela, were also injured in this accident, who were promptly assisted at Clínica Sagrada Esperança, in Lobito, where they had been admitted for hours. after the accident.

Regarding this matter, the president of the Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito assured that all the injured were well and predicted a quick recovery to continue with the emblem’s normal activity in the competition.
