Africa-Press – Angola. Senior officials from the United Nations Permanent Consultative Committee in charge of Security in Central Africa (UNSAC) visited, this Thursday, the “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”.
The infrastructure is located in the urban district of Bom Jesus, municipality of Icolo e Bengo, province of Luanda.
The delegation of Senior Officials was led by the director of the Directorate of Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sara Silva.
The visit is part of the 57th Session of UNSAC, which takes place this week, in Luanda, and allowed the Senior Officials of this Committee to witness the significant progress that Angola has made in terms of infrastructure and development.
During the visit, visitors had the opportunity to tour the facilities of the new airport, which is one of the most modern infrastructures in the country.
The various operational areas of the airport were presented, namely: the passenger terminal, the cargo area, the landing and take-off runways, the railway station, as well as the security and customs control systems.
The delegation was impressed with the level of modernization and operational capacity of the new airport, recognizing its potential to boost economic growth and improve regional connectivity.
The airport is equipped with cutting-edge technology and prepared to receive large aircraft, with the capacity to move millions of passengers and tons of cargo annually.
Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport is not only a gateway to Angola, but also a major hub for the interconnection of the African continent with the rest of the world.
The airport site is approximately 40 km southeast of the center of the capital, in the territory of the commune of Bom Jesus do Cuanza, in the municipality of Ícolo e Bengo, in the province of Luanda. With a capacity for 15 million passengers per year, it was designed to accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.
