US highlights Angola's mediation in the dispute between DRC and Rwanda

Africa-Press – Angola. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted, in Kinshasa, the role of Angola and Kenya in mediating the dispute between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

What we (USA) do daily is to ensure that the United States can support the international mediation managed by Kenya and Angola, bring back peace, security and stability”, said Antony Blinken, quoted by the Congolese Press Agency.

Antony Blinken arrived in Kinshasa at the head of a large delegation from his country, after a working visit to South Africa.

According to the international press, the US Secretary of State’s visit to the African continent aims to strengthen the US-Africa dialogue, as well as seek to mitigate Russian influence on the continent.

Cited by the Congolese Press Agency, the American diplomat called on the M23 and all other armed groups to “cease their violent activities, demilitarize and continue the efforts at normalization that are imperative”.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the DRC, Christophe Lutundula, indicated, in turn, that the US and Congolese delegations discussed issues of common interest.

Engagement Of President João Lourenço

Under the mediation of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, the presidents of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi, and of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, met last July in Luanda, in a meeting that aimed to resolve the armed conflict in eastern DR Congo. .

Since taking office as President of the Republic, in September 2017, João Lourenço has spared no effort to see the political and military crisis in some States that make up the Great Lakes Region resolved, specifically Rwanda and Uganda, Central African Republic ( RCA), Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Chad and other countries of the cradle continent.

Analysts believe that João Lourenço has been positively engaged in efforts to overcome the crises and is doing a great deal of work to put an end to the presence, in DRC territory, of the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR), and to dismantle the Congolese militias ( M23).
