US Secretary of State congratulates Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, congratulated, this Saturday, the Angolan people on celebrating the 48th anniversary of National Independence.

In a note made public in Washington, DC, Antony Blinken highlighted that the US considers Angola as a strategic partner and leader in regional forums.

“I am grateful for the way the United States and Angola have expanded our partnership, especially over the past year. From the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, to increased security cooperation, to the ways U.S. companies are finding success in Angola, the U.S.-Angola relationship is strong and growing. We hope to continue working with the Angolan people on regional stability, shared prosperity and the fight against corruption”, reads the note.

The North American leader applauds the shared commitment to peace, security and the principles of the United Nations Charter, wishing the best for the Angolan people as they celebrate this day.

Angola and the USA signed, in 2010, a strategic partnership agreement, and cooperate in several areas, with emphasis on trade, finance, energy, manufacturing industry, security, health and justice.

Angola exports oil and diamonds to the United States and buys food, equipment for the oil sector and various machinery from this country.

Angola is the US’s third largest trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to oil exports.
