Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador of the United States to Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, Tulimabo Mushigi, has been on a three-day working visit to the province of Cunene since this Monday, to identify new areas of cooperation in the fields of health, humanitarian aid and trade.
In a statement to the press, the diplomat expressed the United States’ interest in exploring new areas of cooperation, such as commercial diplomacy in order to strengthen American investment in Angola.
He said that the objective is to identify Cunene’s potential, to carry out a diplomatic promotion in order to attract private investment from companies in the Americas.
For Cunene, he added, we intend to reinforce the deepening of cooperation relations with the local government, through different health programs, where we are involved in the fight against VHI/AIDS and Covid 19 and other humanitarian aid.
Along these lines, he said that as part of its strategy to promote American private investment, Angola received more than seven billion dollars, to carry out different actions.
Another yes pointed to the support of national security, highlighting the preponderant role of the Angolan State, in the stability of the African continent and good governance, in order to develop strong institutional projects.
On the political side, Tulinabo Mushingi said that the US will help Angola to implement local elections, maintain peace and support the area of security and stability.
Tulimabo Mushigi made it known that since 2020 the USA has disbursed eight million dollars for Covid19 actions, one million dollars for the fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as 500 thousand doses of vaccination against Covid-19
Meanwhile, he said that the visit to Cunene will also make it possible to evaluate projects linked to the areas of humanitarian assistance and health financed by his Government, as well as the possibility of opening doors for other American investments in Angolan territory.
During his stay in the province, the diplomat met with the acting governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, and then went to the municipality of Namacunde, where he met with implementation partners supported by the GCU and mentor mothers.
For Tuesday, the program reserves a trip to the municipality of Ombadja, 97 kilometers from the provincial headquarters, where he will visit the drought emergency assistance resilience activity and a subsequent visit to the Ondjiva general hospital.
The return of the United States delegation to Cunene is scheduled for Wednesday, supporting several meetings with partners.
Angola and the USA have maintained political and diplomatic relations for 30 years, after the recognition of the Angolan State by the Administration of then President Bill Clinton.
