Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, speaks, this Tuesday, at the opening ceremony of the 16th US-Africa Business Summit, taking place in Dallas, state of Texas.

According to the summit’s official program, the President of the Republic will be the first to speak at the event, to be chaired by Florie Liser, president of the organizing entity, the Corporate Council in Africa.

In addition to this intervention, João Lourenço has two interventions planned in High Level Dialogues on Investment in Strategic Infrastructures and Sustainable Growth and the Energy Future of Africa.

This Monday, the Angolan statesman completed an intense work schedule in the city of Dallas, marked by nine hearings with entities from the corporate world, business and political sphere in the United States.

The Angolan Head of State is among the African government entities invited to the summit, which will discuss, for four days, solutions to boost commercial cooperation between North Americans and Africans.

In addition to João Lourenço, the participation of Heads of State Joseph Boakai, from Liberia; Lazarus Chakwera, from Malawi; Mokgweetsi Masisi, from Botswana; José Maria Neves, from Cape Verde; Filipe Nyusi, from Mozambique; and Bola Tinubu, from Nigeria.

According to the organization, Nthomeng Majara, deputy prime minister of Lesotho, should also be present; Muhammad BS Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia; and David Sengeh, chief minister of Sierra Leone.

Several ministers will also participate representing the areas of Commerce, Health, ICT, Energy, Investments and Agriculture from Angola, Cote d’Ivoire, Botswana, Cape Verde, Lesotho, Liberia, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Togo and Zambia.

The host country will be represented by a delegation led by the ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who will be accompanied by several executives and influential businessmen.

The Summit will bring together more than 1,500 public and private sector executives from the United States and Africa, including Heads of State, international investors, North American and African government officials, as well as multilateral entities.

The event will be marked by plenary sessions and thematic panels, which will be focused on different sectors such as agribusiness, finance, energy, health, infrastructure, ICT, creative industries and others.

The meeting coincides with celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which has spent more than USD 10 billion on political institutional reforms and infrastructure investments in Africa.

The summit is an initiative that aims to discuss effective solutions to boost sustainable commercial partnerships between the USA and the African continent, which is increasingly strategic and a priority in the foreign policy of the North American Administration.

The main objective of the meeting is to enable African leaders to directly contact decision-makers from Governments and the private sector, in order to promote sustainable business partnerships between the US and Africans.

The organization of the summit plans to bring to the table topics of capital importance for strengthening mutually advantageous business partnerships, with particular emphasis on the agribusiness sector.

It is expected that African countries will establish bridges and partnerships to give greater consistency to their development projects, attracting US investors to agricultural fields, one of the main drivers of growth for the continent’s economies.

The 16th US-Africa Business Summit will serve to delve deeper into the issue of available financing options, through the US Government and institutional investors, as well as North American and African banks.

Likewise, the topic of energy infrastructure and transition to more sustainable sources, the situation and opportunities in the public health sector will be discussed, in addition to the exploration of investment opportunities in infrastructure.

In the field of Information and Communication Technologies, discussions will be held on innovations and opportunities in the ICT sector, while in the area of ​​creative industries an approach is expected to explore partnerships to strengthen the creative industry.

During the four days of work, specific forums are also planned for each of the countries, which will facilitate interaction with senior government officials and business leaders from countries with promising markets for investment.

The event will also offer networking opportunities, private meetings with key decision-makers and high-level dialogues with African government delegations and business executives.

The work program foresees six thematic panels, which will feature the participation of Heads of State and Government from Africa and senior North American political entities, with emphasis on the High-Level Dialogue on Strengthening Health Systems in Africa.

Another High Level Dialogue is on the theme of Unlocking Africa’s Digital Potential – Addressing Challenges and Expanding Opportunities, the purpose of which is to present opportunities to accelerate digitalization in Africa, strengthen partnerships to resolve critical bottlenecks, including infrastructure.

Within the scope of this theme, factors such as the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, internet access, encouraging digital entrepreneurship, education and training in technology, development of innovation ecosystems, digital inclusion, development of local applications, among others, will be discussed.

In turn, the Panel on Food Insecurity of Agricultural Business Ownership and the Case for a Strategic Partnership in Agribusiness between the United States and Africa will have as its main focus discussing a strategic partnership in agribusiness with the USA, through bilateral negotiations between the governments of the countries involved.

The theme will explore topics such as the challenges of food insecurity in Africa, opportunities for agricultural development in Africa, the importance of the US-Africa partnership in agribusiness, agricultural investment and financing, capacity development and knowledge transfer, in addition to studying successful cases in this segment.
